BetterFieldPlayMaking Sense Of The Game

Polo is not necessarily the easiest of games to understand, and that’s before you’ve even gotten onto the field.

We like to marry the practical and the theory of polo as much as we can, and therefore during breaks between exercises, chukkas and wooden horse practice, we pull out our trusty chalkboard to discuss the theory behind the plays and your specific plays. This is an invaluable (although not quite high tech) tool in visually understanding field position, game play, and the flow of the game. In addition, this is immediately reinforced by putting practice to the theory in following chukkas after the breaks.

After dinner every night, once you have enjoyed one of Jeanne’s lovely meals, discussions tend to revolve around videos of the days practice chukkas, where you can see your mistakes, triumphs and of course your many goals!:
